The U.S. Department of Agriculture has waged war right now across the country, but this war is not against people it is against huge, ever-growing packs of feral pigs that are running rampant, destroying crops, killing wildlife and spreading disease everywhere they go. These feral pigs been spotted all the way from Texas to California to Michigan and in New York

The spokesman for the USDA Wildlife Services, Carol Bannerman announces that “It’s estimated there are at least 4 million of them nationwide, but its impossible to count them all so there may be much more” reports say that this feral pigs cause more than $8 million worth of damage every year

Carol Bannerman added “That amount doesn’t include impact to the natural environment and native species, or to water. One disease humans can get, she said, by coming in contact with the beasts bodily fluids is called swine brucellosis, and is extremely painful.”

History research says that in 1500s Explorers coming from Spain has brought this hogs, after that the boars bred and spread and have chomped their way across the country ever since, devouring crops and small livestock. Texas is said to have the largest population of these feral pigs, for this pigs most prevalent in the South where the climate is most conducive.

Now a shoot on sight order has been ordered to the state that has estimated to have about 6,000 wild swine. This order means that anyone with any type of hunting license can legally kill a feral pig. In July 2011 it will become legal for a person to shoot a hog that comes onto his property as well.

Carol Bannerman announces that the U.S. Department of Agriculture is taking the problem very seriously saying “Because of the impact it has on everything from agriculture to natural resources and humans’ health and safety, its an extremely important problem”

Washington with its fury, Lucy was able to conquer the project with just six hours. Here is a statement from Lucy’s owner which is Courtney Dunning of Peterborough, New Hampshire. “I think many people underestimate handicapped pets and don’t realize just how much they can do given proper care and training,” This was an amazing feat seeing such handicapped pet showing a lot of spirit. The Dog’s Wheelchair is a walkin wheels for dog that lets disabled dogs do more than simply survive.

This is a very great showmanship of hope and determination. The six hour journey towards the summit of Mt. Washington is not that easy, There were several breaks of food and water. The canine companion of Lucy was topper who is a Chihuahua mix who was rescued from Puerto Rico.

Thursday the Democratic House chairman subcommittee gives BP a below passing grade, in their government report it concludes that only 10 percent of oil from the Gulf of Mexico gusher was burned or skimmed.

The chairman of a House Subcommittee on Energy and Environment Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass announced that “It seems to me that BP’s oil recovery effort comes in on the low effort of what was achievable 21 years ago, during the Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska.” “In my mind, that is not a passing grade, only 10 percent of the 4.1 million barrels actually having been recovered,” ”I think we all saw this coming I think it’s important that, even using a 21-year-old grading system, that BP has done a very poor job in cleaning up the Gulf.”

In the hearing to government officials Rep. Ed Markey convened on the state of the BP oil cleanup. Senior scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Bill Lehr has testified that one quarter of the gusher was recovered, burned or skimmed from the beaches or in the Gulf. Another quarter evaporated or degraded, one quarter ended up “dispersed” in the water column and one quarter is still floating around.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported that majority of the BP oil spill is now completely gone, 25 percent consists of residual oil that is buried in sediments and sand in the water or along the shoreline. In other reports it was found out that there was an oil plume at least 22 miles long, 3,000 feet deep in the Gulf of Mexico, suggesting that million gallons of oil that leaked from a broken BP well could persist far longer than expected, but its not clear Whether the plume’s existence poses a significant threat to the Gulf ecosystem and sea life.

This sinkhole appeared last sunday in a street intersection of Ciudad de Guatemala. Just looking at the photo gives me vertigo.

A sinkhole is a natural depression caused by the removal of underground soil by water. Usually, it happens when the substrate is formed by limestone, carbonate rock, salt beds or any other rock that is easily eroded by water streams. The process could be slow, but sometimes the land just cracks open without notice. In this case, it happened suddenly, swallowing an entire house. The cause: Massive underground water torrents created by tropical storm Agatha.

Sinkholes’ size ranges from low terrain depressions to hundred of meters. Unlike the similar sinkhole that killed two teens in 2007. At least one local newspaper is reporting one person dead, but the authorities have not confirmed it. Some neighbors claim that a whole three-story building and a house fell into the hole.

The Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC) is a federal research facility in the United States. Plum Island Animal Disease Center is a facility that studies animal diseases and it is part of the DHS Directorate for Science and Technology. The picture above is an aerial view of the Plum Island, which sits off the northeast coast of Long Island in New York state.

Plum Island has its own fire department, power plant, and water treatment plant. While the Plum Island remained off-limits to most humans for the last 50 years. Theirs a lot of species in the island, many wild and rare flowers and these are the reason why conversation groups are advocating that the Plum Island Animal Disease Center should be close and because of the risk associated viruses, the public is not allowed in the island.

The official are still hopeful that the Plum Island will remain as is. And recently, the federal government invested about $50 million into upgrading the facilities.

“It’s unlikely they would invest that much money in something with a life expectancy of seven to 10 years,” Russell said.

“There’s a new day in Washington,” said Russell, who is hopeful the new administration will decide to keep the lab on Plum open. “There are changes all over Washington.”

However, Russell believes, whether the new lab will ever be built, the Plum Island’s future may be premature.

Today News has it that the Oil Spill has now reached the Louisiana Wetlands. BP confirms that Wednesday Loisiana Wetlands has now covered in Oil spill that came from the leaked pipe in the Gulf of Mexico. The oil is now polluting the wetlands and its surroundings.

In a lighter news the BP’S chief operating officer Doug Suttles that the over the weekend the insertion tube to suck out the outgoing oil spill has been settled. The suction power of the tube reached reached 3,000 barrels of crude. But still the crews hope that it will make haste, and the numbers increase in the coming days. The think that aided the fast action was the favorable weather conditions it helped hasten the clean up process.

Despite all this it has still reached the Louisiana Coastline, the oil there is thicker and heavier which has gone worst this past few days even reaching Louisiana Wetlands. BP is making every effort to move their equipment and begin to prepare the first effort to stop the oil flow. The real problem here is time; hope they will be able to stop the leak before all the oil cover up the wetlands of Louisiana.

As Paul Oliver and his fellow researchers observed the little fellow the have found out that this frog belongs to an unknown type of long-nosed frog. Scientist called it “Pinnochio” named after the Walt Disney Puppet “Pinnochio”.

The little fellow is dubbed as “Pinnochio” because when the frog is calling it’s nose points upward and when it’s not that active it deflates.

The Foja Mountain in Indonesia is found in the Western Side of the island of New Guinea and is rarely visited by scientist. So finding unknown species in this island is never that impossible.
