Academy Award nominee, Jill Clayburgh dies at her home in Lakeville, Connecticut on Friday from chronic leukemia, a disease she battled for 21 years, according to her husband, Tony Award-winning playwright David Rabe.

Clayburgh was best known for her Oscar-nominated role in the 1978 film “An Unmarried Woman,” which was one of her best screen role and “Starting Over.” According to The Associated Press, her husband said that she dealt with the disease bravely, and quietly, “and made it into an opportunity for her children to grow and be human.”

Moving on, other than her movie roles, Clayburgh was also visible on TV shows like, on Law & Order, The Practice and Nip/Tuck, as well as an ongoing role as mother Jeannie on Ally McBeal.

“I was very assertive as a child, verging on violence and self-destructiveness. Once I threw this short little boy down the stairs,” Clayburgh told PEOPLE in 1979. “It was a kind of need for power at a young age that masks insecurity.”

Wednesday the prosecutors announced that the theft charge against Lindsay Lohan comes five weeks after the actress was released from court-ordered drug rehabilitation and less than three weeks before a judge said he might free her from supervised probation from the drunken driving conviction.
