Googlers got greeted today on the new google.com front page. Instead of the usual Google mark on the search engine, the name Topeka was there instead.
Topeka wasn’t placed there for no reason, it was a return gesture to Topeka, Kansas whose mayor unofficially renamed their city as “Google, Kansas” for the month of March. This move was made to land a spot on Google’s “Fiber for Communities” program.
A rep from Google had this to say on its official blog. “We’ve been wondering ever since how best to honor that moving gesture,” “Today we are pleased to announce that as of 1AM (Central Daylight Time) April 1st, Google has officially changed our name to Topeka.”
There is still no news to whether how long we will see Topeka on Google’s homepage but we think its just going to be for the 1st of April as an April fool’s day surprise to everyone.
