Is Fran McCaffery taking the job at Iowa? Fran McCaffery had a great run at Siena and had brought the school to three straight NCAA Tournaments. Fran McCaffery, who has been coaching Siena for five years will be taking the job as coach at Iowa. He will be replacing Iowa’s former coach Todd Lickliter who was fired after Iowa went 10-22 this year.
Fran McCaffery played college basketball for a season at Wake Forest before transferring to Penn. Before becoming the head coach at Lehigh, he served as an assistant coach and later on promoted to head coach in 1985.
Fran McCaffery spent six seasons at UNC-Greensboro before taking the job as coach at Siena. McCaffery had a 90-87 record through six seasons. He led the Spartans to the Southern Conference Championship and the NCAA Tournament in 2001. McCaffery also coached Lehigh for three seasons, who made it to the NCAA tournament in 1988.
